The World of SPAL Accessories

The world of SPAL accessories includes a vast array of cooling fans, power window kits, and automatic window conversions. SPAL USA is a unique brand in that it targets functional automotive electronics. While they do not manufacture exterior car parts for décor or hardcore performance upgrades like exhausts or intakes, what they do provide is a catalog of other products meant to accentuate what a car already has. This is mostly witnessed with their line of electric fans.

SPAL Automotive Cooling Fans

SPAL 11" Push Fan
Most drivers know of SPAL due to their selection of cooling fans. There are many different fan sizes, blade types, and applications. Automotive fans are broken up into two main functions – push and pull. A push fan does as it is described, which is direct air in a concise manner towards a singular destination point. Many times, car owners will install a SPAL push fan in front of parts such as an oil cooler, radiator, or transmission line. For most vehicles, using a push fan in front of a radiator can be difficult because there is usually a limited amount of space in front of it for a fan to fit adequately. Even with one of SPAL’s low profile fans, it can still be a tight fit. However, for other areas under the hood, a push fan can still offer an efficient method of cooling to a heated area.

Pull fans are a common application, more specifically for performance automobiles. Just as push fans move air forward off of the propellers, a pull fan works the opposite way. You wouldn’t install a SPAL pull fan in front of the part you want cooled, but rather, in back of it. That is because a puller fan pulls the air from behind, creating an encompassing displacement of airflow. The air is then directed right at its target area. Car owners or even racecar drivers will take a SPAL USA puller fan and bracket it right against a radiator to gain maximum results. Like pusher fans, a puller can be used for other areas such as the oil cooler, intercooler, trans line, and more.

SPAL Fan Blades

There are two primary fan blades to choose from: Straight and curved. For someone unfamiliar with how fan blades operate it may appear as if there is not a major difference between the two. But for drivers who are in-tune with the cooling process, a preference in fan blade type is often prevalent. Straight blades are of course, quite common. When automotive electric fans first began being used a few decades ago, straight blades were pretty much the only shape being used. They are just as effective today as they were yesteryear. Fans with rectangular blades demonstrate forced airflow by slicing through the air. The blades cut through the air, whipping it at its objective. For fans with a high CFM rating, it can be very powerful. The only drawback drivers complain about is the volume. Straight fans can be pretty loud. For racers with loud engines, it isn’t that much of an issue. For residential drivers who often travel at cruising speeds it can be a bigger deal.

Curved fan blades are becoming more and more a part of the landscape. SPAL fans with curved blades sacrifice a small percentage of airflow for a much quieter sound. The difference in power between straight and curved blades is hard to discern, simply because SPAL performance fans are all designed to provide a high level of airflow. To the point, competitive drivers often sport a SPAL fan with curved blades because they work well enough in high temperature situations. This is especially the case with high output fans.

SPAL Power Window & Lock Conversion Kits

SPAL 2-Door Power Lock Conversion Kit
SPAL is definitely noted for their contribution to temperature management but they are equally recognized for electronics. Cars that came without power locks or windows do not have to remain that way in SPAL’s view, which is why they make conversion kits so that drivers can enjoy a higher level of convenience. SPAL power window kits enable a motorist to use the existing OEM components inside their door panels in order to achieve automatic windows. It is the same thing with power lock kits. SPAL puts all of the parts together in one easy-to-use collection so that you have everything you need to turn your stock package into a luxury car with all the trimmings.

UltraRev offers an exclusive lineup of SPAL fans and accessories for you to browse through. High performance cooling fans, power lock conversions, automatic windows, and even pop door kits are available for most vehicles. SPAL Cooling Fans Help Performance Cars Handle the Heat

As the season changes and the temperature warms up, so will your car. Not only are drivers more apt to take their rides out when it’s nice out, but warmer outside air means a hotter engine. SPAL fans offer just what you need to give your engine bay that breeze it needs to keep chugging along.

If you don’t know SPAL USA by now, here’s a quick rundown. SPAL is a company based out of Italy that has been producing the best electric fans and switch components for over 50 years. While it is considered an aftermarket brand by most, the truth is that SPAL is so widely respected inside the automotive industry that many of their fans are bought by automakers and included as stock in some vehicles.

What are SPAL cooling fans used for?

SPAL fans are often used to cool off a car’s radiator, engine oil, or intercooler. There are several reasons why a driver, any driver, might purchase a SPAL cooling fan. Firstly, every vehicle deals with the potential for overheating, especially at cruising speeds or idling. If air isn’t getting into the engine compartment at an adequate rate, the temperature inside will exceed 185 or 195 degrees Fahrenheit, causing your vehicle to get too hot. The “everyday” vehicle does not have to deal with this as often, although it does happen. However, it is more prevalent with performance models that host aftermarket parts built for speed.

Think of the issues this can cause. If the radiator overheats, everything from the AC unit on down can be in trouble. If the oil gets too hot, it does not break down properly. Not only do these problems bring down performance, but they can also be damaging to a car’s health. SPAL cooling fans quickly and efficiently bring temps down to reasonable levels so you don’t have to worry.

SPAL 10" Low Profile Pull Curved Fan
The beauty of SPAL USA is that there isn’t just one fan for one type of vehicle. There are plenty of choices available. You can find SPAL puller fans or push fans in diameters ranging from just a couple inches up to 16”. Want more? You’ve also got straight blade fans, curved blade fans, paddle blade, and curved paddle blade fans to choose from. Straight blades are intended more for head-on cooling performance but come with a bit of noise. For drivers that burn up the road on the track or drag strip, a little extra noise coming from the fan is not a problem. But if you want just a little more peace and quiet, SPAL S blade fans are for you. Instead of directly cutting up the air, curved blade fans move it in the direction it needs to go, resulting in a more subdued sound that you won’t even hear when the car is in gear.
